ATAR module mounted on sprayer boom at dawn

Technology

Precision at 60 frames per second.

How ATAR sees, decides, and sprays — in under 42 milliseconds.

How it works

See. Decide. Spray.

ATAR camera module

Image Capture

Each ATAR module houses a 12 MP Sony IMX sensor with a wide 160° field of view, capturing at 60 frames per second. Connected via a single PoE cable for both power and data, each module is a self-contained vision unit. At working speeds of up to 18 km/h, the camera captures every square centimeter of the field. The ruggedized housing is fully dustproof and waterproof for all-season field use.

On-Module AI

Each module’s dedicated GPU processes 24–30 frames per second from the 60 FPS camera feed, selecting optimal frames for neural network inference. Classification happens in under 42 milliseconds per frame — fast enough to activate at full driving speed with centimeter-level precision. No cloud connection required. The system works offline in fields with zero cellular coverage. The Central Unit handles pressure regulation and communicates with the server for model updates and continuous learning.

Smart nozzle activation

Smart Nozzle Activation

ATAR controls every single nozzle independently. Each nozzle fires only when a weed is detected directly beneath it — your crop stays untouched. Switch to Standard mode for full-boom conventional spraying, or use existing field maps to enable overlap spraying across mapped zones. You save up to 80% on herbicide — every single pass.

Every parameter is adjustable from the controller: how many nozzles activate per detection (1, 2, 3 or more), how far ahead of the weed the spray starts, and how far after it stops. Fine-tune your spray window for different crops, weed pressure, and driving speeds — all in real time, without stopping.

Spray science

The precision timing challenge.

The real challenge in spot spraying isn’t just detecting weeds — it’s ensuring each weed receives properly formed spray droplets. When a pneumatic nozzle activates, the spray pattern needs approximately 100–150 milliseconds to fully develop. During this transient phase, droplets are irregularly shaped — they haven’t reached their target Volume Median Diameter (VMD). Only after the pattern stabilizes do you get the droplet quality needed for effective herbicide delivery.

ATAR solves this by calculating the exact lead time for each nozzle activation. The system fires the nozzle early enough that by the time the weed passes underneath, the spray is already in steady-state with properly formed droplets. After the weed passes, the nozzle stays open for a configurable trail period to ensure complete coverage.

Environmental conditions matter too. Delta T — the difference between wet and dry bulb temperatures — directly affects how long droplets survive in the air. In hot, dry conditions (high Delta T), smaller droplets evaporate before reaching the target. ATAR’s adjustable parameters let operators compensate: widen the spray window, increase nozzle count, or adjust lead and trail times to match conditions.

Every parameter is adjustable from the controller in real time: how many nozzles fire per detection, how far ahead the spray starts, and how long it continues after the weed. Different crops, weed pressure, driving speeds, and weather conditions — one system, fully adaptable.

Coverage

Why 2 nozzles, not 1.

Unlike simple on/off systems, ATAR understands that a single nozzle cannot deliver adequate coverage on its own. When a weed is detected, the system activates at least two adjacent nozzles to guarantee proper spray overlap. This ensures every weed receives the correct herbicide dose with no gaps in coverage.

The number of nozzles per activation is fully configurable — set it to 1, 2, 3, or more depending on your boom spacing, nozzle type, and weed pressure. Adjust from the controller without stopping.

Valves

Compressed air. Simple, fast, reliable.

ATAR uses pneumatic shutoff valves exclusively. Normally closed, polypropylene reinforced fiberglass body, Viton gaskets, stainless steel spring. Maximum operating pressure 8 bar (115 PSI). Ultra-low air consumption: just 0.0069 liters per cycle — even a 50-nozzle boom uses negligible air volume.

Optional compressor kit

Self-propelled sprayers without an onboard compressor? No problem. Our optional 12V ATAR compressor mounts next to the Central Unit and handles the entire boom with minimal power draw.

Hydraulics

Constant dose, regardless of mode.

When the system switches from Standard mode (all nozzles open) to Smart mode (fewer nozzles open), pressure would spike without compensation. ATAR’s integrated pressure control uses an ARAG proportional valve (Series 863T/873T) and a pressure sensor in the Central Unit to adjust flow in real time. The result: every activated nozzle delivers the correct dose per hectare, regardless of how many nozzles are active.

Flow regulation is proportional to ground speed — liters per hectare stays constant whether you’re turning at 3 km/h or spraying at 12 km/h. The faster you drive, the higher the pressure to maintain consistent application rate.

Note: Some sprayers already have adequate pressure regulation built in. Our Configurator identifies whether your sprayer needs this component.

Mode Switching

Switch modes in one tap.

At any moment, the operator can switch between Smart mode (AI-controlled spot spraying) and Standard mode (all nozzles open, conventional spraying). No stopping, no reconfiguration. One tap on the tablet, phone, or ISO-BUS terminal.

ATAR works with whatever screen you already have. Our 10″ rugged tablet, any Android phone or tablet, or your existing ISO-BUS terminal — same interface, same control.

For large operations

Dual-line upgrade.

For larger sprayers that need to maintain full conventional capability alongside smart spraying, ATAR offers a dual-line option: a dedicated smart spray line added to the boom. The operator switches between lines from the cabin — maximum flexibility for agricultural service companies.
